The Yorkshire Dales

With a rich network of footpaths among the distinctive drystone walls, there are walks for all abilities from riverside strolls to the challenges of our Three Peaks. The area is a Mecca for cavers, with show caves for families and a myriad of pot holes for the more experienced. Pretty villages and bustling market towns provide the opportunity for exploring independent shops and craft galleries.

Our local village, just 10 minutes’ walk away, offers many unique gift shops, outdoor clothing wear shops, cafés and more. There is a seasonal heated outdoor swimming pool, a climbing wall, a fantastic play area for the kids, the famous waterfalls walk, show caves and special events all year round.

The Marton Arms is a perfect base in The Three Peaks to take up the famous Yorkshire Three Peak Challenge. A great way to raise money for charity, all you have to do is scale all these heights in a day.

Nestled between The Three Peaks of Ingleborough, Pen-y-Ghent and Whernside, the iconic Ribblehead Viaduct carries the famous Settle-Carlisle line. Just a short drive from The Marton Arms, it’s worth a visit for the spectacular setting alone.

The TV series Jericho was filmed here; a dramatisation of the amazing feat of its construction in the 1870s.

The Marton Arms is on the edge of the Forest of Bowland, designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1964. An unspoilt treasure, it provides some of the most peaceful and remote walking, cycling, wildlife-watching and star-gazing  in the country. 

Enjoy a day by the sea with a visit to Silverdale or one of the other pretty villages on the nearby coast.

Just a half hour drive way, Morecambe Bay and Leighton Moss is a haven for birdwatching (as featured on BBC Springwatch) and a fabulous place to watch the sunset.
